Manage or disconnect GitHub

Change which repositories Grove reads, fix a broken connection, or disconnect GitHub.

Written by Jack Meyers

After you connect GitHub, you manage the connection in Settings › GitHub. Only workspace admins can do this.

Change which repositories Grove reads

  1. Open the account menu, then Workspace settings, then GitHub.

  2. On the organization's row, click Choose repositories.

  3. Tick the repositories this workspace tracks. Untick the ones it doesn't.

  4. Click Track. The button shows the count, such as Track 3 repositories.

Choose repositories lists only the repositories that Grove may see on GitHub. A repository can belong to only one workspace. A repository that another workspace tracks shows "Tracked by" and that workspace's name.

To add a repository that isn't in the list:

  1. On the organization's row, click Manage on GitHub. GitHub's settings for the Grove app open in a new tab.

  2. Add the repository, and save on GitHub.

  3. Back in Grove, click Choose repositories, tick the repository, and click Track.

Grove never adds a new repository by itself. You always tick it in Choose repositories.

Grove picks up changes on GitHub the next time an admin opens Settings › GitHub, or when Grove next starts working in the workspace. When you remove a repository on GitHub, Grove deletes its copy.

Fix a broken connection

If GitHub no longer gives Grove access, the organization's row shows Needs reconnection. This happens, for example, when someone uninstalls the Grove app on GitHub.

Click Reconnect on GitHub, and approve the app again. Grove replaces the broken connection.

Back in Grove, Choose repositories opens. Check that the repositories this workspace needs are ticked, and click Track.

Disconnect an organization

  1. In Settings › GitHub, click Disconnect on the organization's row.

  2. Type the organization's name to confirm.

  3. Click Disconnect.

What happens:

  • Grove stops reading that organization's repositories, and deletes its copies.

  • The connection is removed from this workspace only.

  • The Grove app stays installed on GitHub.

To remove the app from GitHub too, click Uninstall on GitHub in the message Grove shows. Or uninstall it in your GitHub organization's settings.

If you uninstall the app on GitHub without disconnecting in Grove first, the row shows Needs reconnection until you click Disconnect.
