When you connect GitHub, Grove reads your code. It plans from what you've already built, and checks the code against each outcome when work ships. Grove only reads your code. It never changes it.
Only workspace admins can connect GitHub. If you're not an admin, ask one to do it.
What Grove asks for
GitHub permission | Access |
Contents (code) | Read |
Metadata | Read |
Commit statuses | Read |
Pull requests | Read |
Issues | Read and write |
Grove doesn't get write access to your code. For what Grove does with each permission, see How Grove uses your code: permissions, sandbox, read-only access.
Connect
Open the account menu, then Workspace settings.
Under Integrations, click GitHub.
Click Connect GitHub.
GitHub opens. Pick the organization, or your personal account.
Grant Grove the repositories it may see: all of them, or only some.
Confirm on GitHub. You come back to Settings › GitHub.
Grove opens Choose repositories, with every available repository ticked. Untick the ones this workspace doesn't need. Then click Track. The button shows the count, such as Track 3 repositories.
If you close Choose repositories without clicking Track, Grove tracks nothing.
A repository can belong to only one workspace. A repository that another workspace tracks shows in grey, with "Tracked by" and that workspace's name. You can't tick it.
You can also start from:
The setup checklist on the Queue: click Connect GitHub in Connect your code.
A project's Delivery tab: click Connect GitHub.
After you connect
Settings › GitHub shows Connected organizations. Each organization shows how many repositories this workspace tracks, such as "3 repositories tracked", and lists them.
If an organization shows No repositories tracked yet, click Choose repositories on its row, and choose them.
Grove starts copying the repositories when you click Track. It may take a few minutes before Grove can use all your code.
To connect another GitHub organization, click Connect GitHub again, under Connect another organization.
If GitHub needs an owner's approval
If you aren't an owner of the GitHub organization, GitHub asks an owner to approve the Grove app. Grove shows: "A GitHub organization owner needs to approve the Grove app. Once approved, connect again." When the owner approves, click Connect GitHub again.
Other messages
Message | What to do |
"App installed, but no repositories were selected." | Go back to GitHub, and give Grove access to at least one repository. |
"You do not have access to manage this workspace's GitHub connection." | Ask a workspace admin to connect GitHub. |
"We couldn't complete the connection." | Try connecting again. |
Skip for now
On the setup checklist, you can click Skip in Connect your code. Grove still plans without your code, but it can't check what ships. You can connect GitHub later in Settings › GitHub.
