Change roles and remove members

What Admins and Members can do, how to change someone's role, and how to remove someone from the workspace.

Written by Jack Meyers

Every person in a workspace is an Admin or a Member. Admins manage the team and the workspace's settings. Everyone can plan and build.

Change someone's role

  1. Open the account menu, then Workspace settings. The Members page opens.

  2. Click the person's role, such as Member.

  3. Choose Admin or Member.

Grove shows, for example, "Sam is now an admin."

Some limits:

  • You can't change your own role. Ask another admin.

  • A workspace must always have at least one admin. Make someone else an admin before you change the last admin to Member.

A person who is signed in when you change their role may keep their old access until they sign out and in again.

Remove someone

  1. On the Members page, click ... on the person's row.

  2. Click Remove from workspace.

  3. Type the person's email address to confirm, then click Remove.

The person loses access to the workspace. To add them back later, invite them again with the same email address.

Some limits:

  • You can't remove yourself. Ask another admin.

  • You can't remove the last admin other than you. Make someone else an admin first.

What happens to their work

Their work stays in the workspace. Nothing is reassigned. Their name may still show as a project's lead. In the Work tables, a removed member can show as Unknown member.

To hand their work to someone else, change the lead and members of their projects. See Update status, lead, priority, and dates.
