Grove asks questions before it writes, and whenever it reaches a decision only you can make. It asks them in a card with answer choices, so you can answer in one click. When you're not sure, Grove can lay out the options side by side.
Answer a question
Read the question. Each answer has a short note that explains it.
Pick an answer. You can click it, or press its number key.
Click Next to go to the next question, or Submit after the last one.
When a card holds several questions, it shows Question 1 of 3, and so on. Click Previous to go back and change an answer before you submit. Press Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows) to move on without the mouse.
Some questions let you pick more than one answer.
Write your own answer
If none of the answers fit, click Write your own response and type your answer. Grove reads it the same way as a picked answer.
Explore the options first
When you can't choose yet, pick Help me explore & decide. Grove builds a decision guide: a page that compares every answer, so you can see what separates them before you choose.
A decision guide has four parts:
The question, with the same answers you saw in the card. One answer is marked Recommended.
Why you are being asked: what this choice controls, and what depends on it.
What to consider: a table that rates each answer against the things that matter for this decision.
Response option details: what each answer means and what it trades off. The recommended answer explains why it beats the others.
Each rating in the table has a short reason. The ratings are:
Rating | Meaning |
No concerns | Nothing to worry about here. |
Potential concerns | Could cause trouble, depending on something not yet settled. |
At least one concern | A real cost you take on if you choose this answer. |
Not weighed yet | Grove hasn't worked this one out. |
To answer, pick an answer in the guide and click Send answer, or type your answer in the chat. You can also talk the question through with Grove first. If you change your mind after you send an answer, click Undo in the guide.
Grove keeps each decision guide in the initiative's Scratchpad, under Decision guides, so you can come back to it later.
Change the options
Before you answer, you can change what the guide compares:
Rule out an option. Next to an answer, click Rule out this option (the circled X). Grove keeps its ratings and marks it Ruled out. To undo this, click Bring this option back.
Add an option. Click Add another option under the answers. Choose Manually add another option to write your own, or Generate another option for me to let Grove suggest one. Grove rates the new option like the others.
Change what Grove weighs. Click Edit considerations (the sliders under the table). Choose Add a response option or Add a consideration. Click a consideration's name to rename it or change what it means. Under Remove a consideration, remove one you don't need.
Labels show where an option came from: Yours for an option you added, and Proposed by Grove for one Grove added later.
You can also ask for any of these changes in the chat. Grove makes the change in the guide.
Close a question without answering
Click the X on the card to close it. Grove pauses, and you can tell it in the chat what to do instead.
