Grove's chat sits on the left side of every page. Use it to work through a problem, shape a plan, or ask about anything in your workspace. Grove can read your plans, your strategy, your connected code, and the web.
Start a chat
Each chat with Grove is called a session. There are two kinds:
A chat about one initiative or project. Open the initiative or project, and type in the chat. Grove focuses on that work. When you create a new initiative, Grove opens a session for it by itself.
A chat about your whole workspace. Click Ask Grove in the bar at the bottom of the screen. Use it for questions that cover more than one initiative, or to start something new.
To start a fresh session, click the new session button next to Ask Grove.
Send a message
Type in the box at the bottom of the chat, and press Enter to send. Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
To add files, click +. Grove accepts these file types: Markdown (.md), text (.txt), PDF, and images (.png, .jpg, .gif, .webp). Each file can be up to 3 MB, and one message can carry up to 4 MB of files.
While Grove works
The box says Grove is thinking... while Grove works. To stop it, click the stop button.
Short notes in the chat show each step Grove takes, such as Searched the web, Read code, or Edited a document. Click a note to see more.
When Grove changes a document, it adds a View changes link, so you can see exactly what changed.
When Grove is editing a document you have open, you see Grove is editing. Click it to follow along as Grove writes.
Grove sometimes asks a question with answer choices before it goes on. See Answer Grove's questions and explore options.
Choose a model and effort
Click the model name under the message box, such as Sonnet, to change it.
Opus is the strongest model, for hard planning and decisions.
Sonnet is fast and strong for most work.
Haiku is the fastest, for quick questions.
For Opus and Sonnet, you can also set Effort: Low, Medium, High, Xhigh, or Max. Higher effort means more reasoning and higher cost.
Find your chats
Chats you have open appear as tabs in the bar at the bottom. A tab shows when a chat is waiting for you.
Click Recent to search your sessions, or to see All sessions.
Chats that wait for your answer also appear on your Queue, under Needs attention.
To give the chat more room, click the expand button at the top of the chat.
