Use the Scratchpad

Find Grove's notes, pictures, and decision guides, and know what belongs there instead of in the plan.

Written by Jack Meyers

The Scratchpad holds the work around the plan: Grove's notes, the pictures it draws, and the guides it builds to help you decide. The plan documents hold what you decided. The Scratchpad holds how you got there.

Find the Scratchpad

Every initiative and every project has its own Scratchpad. Open the initiative or project, and click Scratchpad in the sidebar, below Plan. A project's Scratchpad shows only that project's items.

The Scratchpad opens by itself when Grove creates or opens one of its items. When it's closed and Grove is working in it, you see Grove's badge next to Scratchpad.

What's in it

Section

What it holds

Documents

Grove's working notes and other write-ups, such as research findings. When it's empty, it says "Notes and documents from Grove will appear here."

Visuals

The sketches, mockups, and diagrams Grove draws, including the ones shown inside your plan documents. When it's empty, it says "Diagrams and mockups from Grove will appear here."

Decision guides

The guides Grove builds when you choose Help me explore & decide on a question. This section appears once you have a guide.

Items are sorted by name. Click an item to open it.

How items get there

  • Grove adds them. When Grove adds an item, it tells you which Scratchpad it went to, with a link.

  • Builders can add them. A builder's coding agent can add documents and pictures to a project's Scratchpad.

You can't add, rename, or delete Scratchpad items in the app. To change an item, ask Grove.

If something in the Scratchpad becomes a decision, ask Grove to write it into the plan.

Builders get the Scratchpad too

When a builder picks up a project, the project's Scratchpad items come with it. Their coding agent can read them.

When a project is archived, its Scratchpad can't be changed anymore.
