Talk a thread through with Grove

Work out the answer to a thread with Grove in private, then post a reply when you're ready.

Written by Jack Meyers

Not sure how to answer a thread? Talk it through with Grove first. Grove reads the thread and the plan, and recommends an answer. Nothing you say to Grove is posted in the thread until you're ready.

Start a discussion

Do one of these:

  • When you start a thread: tick Send to Grove before you click Submit. Grove opens a discussion of the new thread.

  • From a thread: open the thread, and click Discuss with Grove. To start in a fresh chat, click the arrow next to it, then Discuss in a new session.

  • From the Threads page: select one or more threads, then click Discuss.

  • From the Queue: click a project's row in a thread card. Grove opens a discussion of that project's open threads.

If Grove is busy replying in your current chat, Discuss with Grove is inactive. Start a new session, or wait.

What Grove does

  1. Grove reads each thread as it is now, and the plan documents it's about.

  2. Grove leads with a recommendation for each thread, and explains why.

  3. You talk it through. Ask questions, push back, or just get clear on the problem. Understanding the problem is a fine result, even if you don't answer yet.

  4. You decide the answer. Grove doesn't post anything until you do.

Post the answer

Grove never replies to a thread, or closes it, until you say so.

Once you've decided the answer, tell Grove. It writes the reply and posts it. Everyone on the project sees the reply.

If you ask for the change the thread raised, Grove makes the change first, then replies to say what changed.

To close the thread, ask Grove to close it, or click Close thread yourself.

When you discuss several threads at once, Grove gives each thread its own reply. Grove skips threads that are already closed.
