See and restore earlier versions

Look at a plan document as it was earlier, see what changed, and bring an old version back.

Written by Jack Meyers

Grove saves earlier versions of every plan document. You can look at any of them, see what changed, and restore one.

When Grove saves a version

  • While people edit, Grove saves a version about every 30 seconds.

  • Grove saves a version after each of its own edits.

Open the version history

  1. Open the document.

  2. At the top, click Edited, such as "Edited 2 minutes ago."

  3. Click View version history.

Version history works for plan documents. It doesn't work for pictures.

Read the version history

The list on the left shows each version, newest first:

  • The date and time.

  • Who made the changes: a person's name, or "Grove (on behalf of" and the name of the person Grove was working for. "And 1 more" means more than one person edited.

  • Latest version marks the newest saved version.

Click a version to see it on the right. Show changes is on by default. It highlights what changed since the version before. Turn it off to read the version as it was.

Restore a version

  1. Click the version you want.

  2. Click Restore.

  3. In Restore version?, click Restore.

The restored version replaces the document for everyone. Grove saves the current document as a version first, so you can undo a restore by restoring that version. Threads on passages that are in the restored version stay attached.

Anyone in the workspace can restore a version.

Ask Grove

You can also ask Grove in the chat, such as "What changed in the P-003 requirements today?" or "Restore the P-003 requirements to how they were this morning." Grove names versions by date and author.

Before Grove restores a version, it asks you to confirm. A restore brings back the document's content only. It doesn't change the document's name or order.
